The Stubborn Boys - cape coast, ghana - 2021
In Ghana, I made my way to the Cape Coast, diving into the grim history of the Anglo-Saxons, more infamously known as the slave trade. After immersing myself in that heavy past for a few days, I roamed the streets of Cape Coast, eventually drifting towards the beach. There, I stumbled upon a secluded spot through a narrow alley, dubbed "the fisherman’s hangout," where I encountered young men, some barely more than boys – the kind who you'd expect to see in school, not here.
Outsiders labeled this bunch as "stubborn," but to me, they appeared anything but. They were just vibing, sharing laughs, busily mending fishing nets, honing their knives, sneaking in a siesta, and engaging in what looked like intensely competitive card games with stakes that seemed sky-high.
I knew I had found my spot, ready to soak in this slice of life for the next few hours.
