Goodnight, Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh city, vietnam - 2022

Welcome to Saigon, where the blazing sun takes no prisoners, and the locals have a secret weapon to beat the sweltering heat that involves hitting the good old “pause button” and napping in the open! Yes, you read that right, peeps. In this lively city, taking a snooze in the open isn't just about catching forty winks; it's a way of life, an art form that's embraced by the masses.

Picture this, the afternoon sun is beating down on the busy streets of Saigon. People are running about, trying to get their work done. And amidst the hustle and bustle and trying not to get laid out by one of the 7-8 million motorbikes, you'll find some folks catching a quick nap in parks, on the floor, in hammocks, on their chair at work, on benches, or even atop their motorbikes. It's not a sign of laziness – no, sir! It's an ingenious adaptation to the back dripping, sweaty shirt hugging humid climate and a testament to the people's resilience.

This napping phenomenon is not just about escaping the heat; it's also about conserving energy. When the mercury rises, the human body has to work overtime to stay cool and an ice cold “Saigon Beer” just won’t do the job, and that can take a toll on one's productivity. So, what do the savvy Saigon residents do? They take a power nap, of course! By resting during the day, they're able to recharge their batteries and tackle the rest of the day with renewed vigor once the sun starts to set, but I would be true to you all, if I did not also mention, the night snoozers, who are just recharging their batteries but easily awaken.

Goodnight, Vietnam.
